PLATFORM 20

Artistic expression and poetic reflection in contemporary Greece

AMPASTASIA: Thursday, June 21, 2012, at 8:30 pm.

In the context of its current exhibition Platform 20, the Contemporary Greek Art Institute invites you to the artistic/poetic action of AMPASTASIA, on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 8:30 pm.

Two young female visual artists, Amparo Latorre Romero and Anastasia Zoi Souliotou, interact, collaborate and motivate the audience, in order to transform poetic discourse into a work of visual art, in real time. During AMPASTASIA’s performance, any thoughts and feelings triggered by the reading of poems, are simultaneously being transferred on the canvas.

The aim is to highlight the creative process. The purpose and meaning of this performance is not the produced painting itself as its ultimate goal, but the “journey” towards creation, and the exploration of possible meeting points for poetry and artistic expression. How does this “journey” unite two female artists from different countries, Greece and Spain? How do their diversity and common experiences interpret current reality? How does the experience of the moment become an opportunity for expression and how does this manifest itself on the canvas? The public is invited to participate in the performance and contribute actively to its development.

Platform 20 , just like the artistic/poetic action, introduces the work of young artists to the public and encourages reflection on the relationship between art and life.

The artistic duo, AMPASTASIA, were formed in 2010, in Zurich, where they joined their pursuits: The exploration of the human body in Amparo’s case and the multiple realities within a station’s public space and time, e.g. a Metro station, in Anastasia’s case. They both seek to explore the reactions of modern people in different Metropolises of the world; to bridge the gap between art and life and create a platform of expression for the public.

Exhibition duration: May 10 – June 30, 2012

Opening hours: Tuesday – Friday 10:00 – 17:00

Saturday 10:00 – 15:00
